Is it possible to row across the atlantic ?

The number of people who cross the Atlantic Ocean by rowing is fewer than those who successfully climbed Mount Everest’s peak. Rowing is a sport not just based on a person’s physical strength, but psychological as well. It can take more than sixty days to cross the Atlantic Ocean by rowing besides the serious risks along the journey.

With a rowboat, crossing the Atlantic Ocean is a very rewarding feat to achieve. First, you have to know the type of boat that you will be using; there are especially designed rowboats for long distance rowing. The type of boat is useless without extreme training for preparation. Training for long distance rowing may take months to finish. If you want to learn further about long distance rowing, you can join clubs and spend your free time rowing overnight. If you do not have the luxury of doing it hands on, you can make preparation by hitting the gym and working out on your stamina.

Plan your trip and the routes that you want to take on your expedition across the Atlantic. Make sure that the route you chose has favorable ocean currents. This way, you will have no delays in your trip for bad currents will mainly affect your travel time. Prepare yourself and have your mind set living in the sea for a long period of time without the luxury you have when you are home.

Be ready for more than two months of rowing and make sure you packed enough water and food to last for the entire trip. You may also consider bringing a radio and extra batteries or other lightweight items for recreation. Expect to row six to twelve hours a day making at least fifty miles to make a decent record time. Remember to bring extra batteries for your GPS and Emergency Locator Transmitter. Expect to have bad sleep if you are rowing alone, waking up every couple of hours is needed to make sure that your boat is still on course.
